5 Best directors of Tollywood

Direction is definitely a creative job and needs mutli-talent to drive the workforce. Director is like a captain to the ship as many quoted before. He/she is also like a family's head. If head of the family is exemplary, survival of the family becomes bed of roses. As you see, Tollywood adds a new director every other day to its kitty. Though the volume of additions is more, deterioration is also relatively high. 'Success' is the only term that decides the fate of director in the industry most of the times. But 'Quality' is another factor that keeps a few directors alive despite they deliver duds occasionally. Every successful director has his own merits and demerits. Here is an attempt to highlight the Top5 directors of Tollywood in the present era.

Sekhar Kammula:

A software engineer turned director, Sekhar had seen many obstacles while making his debut National award winning film "Dollar Dreams". His passion to movie making didn't pave him a grand entry into the industry. Sekhar, in no time, realized that movie making wasn't that easy despite having interest. He made his first film in a shoe string budget of 20 lacks that was his heard-earned money. He went through many hurdles before releasing it and only to his realization movie didn't fare well at the box-office as expected. Having a naval idea is different and molding it into a watch-able fete is totally another art of making cinema.

Both run in parallel, as a creative director one has to see it that they are blended well at one point of time. Otherwise, successful movie will never be shaped up. By learning lessons from his first failure, Sekhar didn't repeat the same mistake in his second directorial venture called "Anand", a low budget movie. `Anand' did its best to his career. Having megastar's film `SankarDada MBBS' in the opposition, `Anand' was released without expectations and
created history in running and winning awards. `Anand' proved the caliber and the metal of Sekhar as a director. It had brought the freshness into story telling and style of narration.

He had just delivered again with his latest flick `Godavari' what he had promised us. It was a feel good entertainer with loads of fun movements and beautiful characters traveling with you all the way. He is very clear in what he is doing. His intentions are very bold and clear that he is not after any commercial gimmicks. He, for sure, will go to places with his sensibility in narrating scripts and confidence in breaking the rules for good.

Strengths: Character buildup, touching screenplay, decent narration, clean entertainers

Weaknesses: Bit slow in narration

Chandrashekar Yeleti

Fondly called as Chandu is another director with lots of creativity. His first film 'Ayithe' proved that "Anni cienma lu okala vundav". The kidnap drama by a youth of 4 for the survival of fittest was executed with high standards by Chandu. Every young director wants to touch either a love story or a faction based voilent story, but chandu wanted to be odd man out. He seems to have no belief in package formulaes.

His second film was, 'Anukokunda oka roju', ,a crime thriller. It deals with how and why the younger generation trap themselves into serious problems and kill their own life. Chandu still needs to deliver a big commercial hit. But, he says no room for compramise. Though his first 2 movies weren't such a big hit, Chandu had become household in metropolitan areas for his creative work, novel thoughts and perfect execution. If he sticks to his style, sure he will deliver good quality movies in future too.

Strengths: Novel thoughts, tight screenplay, perfect execution

Weakness: Not so commercial, Yet to attract other than metropolitan audience

Trivikram

A writer tunred director who had weilded the megaphone for the first time with 'Nuvve.Nuvve' was not a big hit. But Trivikram was famous for his witty narration and one liners. He had given new pattern to the comedy genre movies. Trivikram characters do also speak philosophy and behave highly emotional at times. His style of picturizing scenes have a pleasant feel, mostly sharp, crispy and avoid any dull moments. His recent flick 'Athadu' with Mahesh Babu altogether presented a different person in Trivikram for his technical briliance in its making.

Inspite of whatever serious subject he deals with it, he makes you laugh in parallel is his biggest strength. His contribution towards success few of the industry biggest hits like Nuvve kaavali, Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, Manmadhudu, Chirunavvutho is noticeable. He seems to be focusing more in directing rather providing scripts to other directors. Hope he continues to provide the healthy entertainers for the newer generations.

Strengths: Hero characterization, Excellent comedy timing, making commericially viable themes, decent execution

Weakness: Giving abrupt endings, Delaying projects, Confusing/irritating audience with hero's mental attitude

S.S. Rajamouli

Struck the chords with 'Simhadri', that was a sensational hit in 2003. This protege of Raghavendrarao established as an hotshot director with the stupendous sucess of Student No1 and Simhadri, both had given lease of life to Jr.NTR.Rajmouli never tasted any failure among 5 films he completed yet. He is considered the most reliable director in Tollywood today.Rajmouli movies do not boast off good story and technical values except the powerful package.

He knows how to take it to the audienceirrespect of whatever story line it is, whatever backdrop it has. His target audience are definitely masses and youth who just care the emotional presentation and racy moments in the movie. All his movies have plenty of room for excessive voilence, which is something he needs to shed out a bit.

Strengths: Package presentation, elevating hero characterization to heights

Weakness: Portraying lot of voilence, repeating same revenge dramas

V V Vinayak

Another successful director who has the potential to deal with stars. Most of his movies had big stars in lead. He was well noticed with his first movie 'Aadi', a blockbuster. After watching his
directorial capabilities, Balakrishna offered him 'Chennakesava Reddy'. Though it wasn't run as expected, didn't do damage to Vinayak's career.

He had done youthful film called 'Dil' that established Raju a highly successful producer today in industry. It's a dream for any upcoming director to handle Megstar's movie. Vinayak is considered lucky to have directed 'Tagore' for chiranjeevi. This movie had set records and won hearts of millions. Though it was a remake of 'Ramana' a moderate offbeat film, Vinayak had given new look to the original by keeping Megastar's image in mind.

Then, he did Samba with NTR, Bunny with Allu arjun to taste the moderate success. His latest flick 'Lakshmi' with venkatesh brought back the glory lost by Venkatesh in masses. Initially started off as an average flick, went onto stand as a biggest grocer in Venky's career and 2006 films.

Strengths: Package presentation, elevating hero characterization to heights, Comfortable dealing with the image of stars

Weakness: Portraying lot of voilence, repeating same revenge dramas, bad selection of songs.
